Packing Tips for Wanderlust Festival

Going to Wanderlust but don’t know what to pack?  Here’s a quick and easy list of things to not leave without.

I’m going to Wanderlust at Squaw Valley in Tahoe this week and weekend and decided to share my festival planning list and thoughts with you.

Scroll down to the bottom of this post for the list images.  Go to Danielle Blends Facebook page to view the images as well.  Feel free to share these with friends!

Yoga Mat:

These 3 mats are my favorite:

If you like sweaty vinyasa classes this mat is great because you don’t need to put a towel down when you get sweaty.  It’s designed to be grippy when dry wicking away any moisture.  This is my go to mat for super sweaty classes.  It’s also soft on your joints with a 5mm thickness.

**Extra Credit: Gaiam offers a Lifetime Guarantee.

Has the perfect amount of cushion for comfort and is sticky enough to not make me slip around.  If it’s a super sweaty class you may still need a yoga towel to avoid slipping.  Not too heavy.

**Extra Credit: Manduka designs their mats to last a lifetime to avoid mats being thrown in landfills every year and reducing overall mat consumption.  Quality over quantity.

I love the traction and cushion on this mat.  You won’t slide around easily and your knees will be protected because of the thickness of the mat.

This mat is great but with consistent use if you go to classes 4-5 times per week it will wear down and little material pieces will come off of the mat.  It doesn’t seem to last as long for the amount and type of yoga that I practice.  Other than longevity I still love this mat.

**Extra Credit: Jade plants a tree for every mat sold.

Yoga Mat Cleaner:

  • I love this Manduka Yoga Mat spray:

Manduka Mat Wash

After each practice it’s recommended that you spray your mat with the mat wash and then wipe it down           with a damp cloth. Let your mat dry before rolling it up.

*Lavender is my fave scent.

Yoga Mat Bag Carrier:

  • This is my favorite yoga mat carrier because most of the times I just want to be able to put my car keys and phone in the little pouch. It’s quick and easy to store away too.

Manduka Go Play 3.0 Carrier Bag

Yoga Mat Towel:

  • I like to keep things clean and wipe down my mat after I spray it with the cleaner. You can buy a microfiber wring out camping towel that dries quickly or you can buy yoga mat cleaning wipes like these:

Jo-Sha Yoga Mat Cleaning Wipes

Sunscreen:

  • You’ll be out in the sun quite a bit and you’ll be so heavily meditated that you might forget about getting too much sun. Avoid the burn and protect your skin.  Zinc as a main ingredient is a more natural way to protect yourself although you will look more white and it’s thicker making it a littler harder to rub in.  But it’s safe and works!
  • Here are some of my favorite sunscreen brands:

is a mineral based sunscreen that glides on looking a little white but dries clear.  I like the stick because it’s      small, easy to carry and has a 50SPF.

They also make a clear spray: MyChelle Clear Spray

I like the continuous spray: Continuous Spray Sunscreen

and Sport Continuous Spray: Sport Continuous Spray Sunscreen

This facial sunscreen is amazing and I love it!  It goes on thick but doesn’t look caked on.  It also helps with       balancing out uneven skin tone.  The green color goes away as you rub it into your skin.  I use it on my face and neck.  It doesn’t clog my pores or cause break outs which I have experienced in the past with other             brands.  It has a 30SPF.

I used to use this facial sunscreen before finding Cicapair.

It has a 30SPF.  It didn’t clog my pores.  I also dab some on my lips.

This one has a 30SPF, sprays on a little thick and white because of the main active ingredient being Zinc           but it works really well.

Sunscreen Tips:

  • **REAPPLY the sunscreen throughout the day!
  • **Put the sunscreen in a ziplock bag so they don’t melt or squeeze out of their containers onto your other belongings. I have had this happen to me before and it was not fun.
  • **Dab some sunscreen on your lips! Chapstick makes your lips extra glossy which attracts the sun even more.  Protect your lips too.

Aloe:

  • Just in case you get burnt bring some aloe. Try to find a brand that doesn’t have alcohol in it which is drying to your skin.  There’s a CVS brand that is decent:

CVS Aloe Gel

Sun Hat:

  • Pack a sun hat to protect your forehead and scalp from getting too much sun.

Target Sun Hat

Kimono, wrap, shaw or light weight poncho:

  • Protects you from the sun when you’ve had enough rays and protects you from the wind when it gets cold.

Free People Kimono

Target Kimono

Urban Outfitters Kimono

Comfortable yoga outfits:

  • You may be wearing the same outfit for 2-3 classes throughout the day. Does it dry quickly if you get sweaty?
  • Be mindful of the tops you wear so your chest doesn’t pour out in front of everyone. I know it’s hard to find tops that keep it all in.
  • Bring a variety of shorts in case it’s really hot, capri leggings and long leggings.
  • Layers is great too so a flowy long sleeve top over a tank top is a great choice.

I love Beyond Yoga pants, Montiel Activewear tops, Colorado Threads pants and Lululemon tops.

There will be vendors selling new amazing items as well so keep in mind you might buy some new outfits.

Towel:

  • Bring a sweat towel and/or regular towel that dries quickly, is absorbent and lightweight. You may want a towel designated to wiping down your mat too.
  • This towel at REI is soft, lightweight, absorbs a lot more water than a regular towel and wrings out almost every drop of moisture to dry quickly. Roll it up and stuff it in your backpack for the day.
  • Great for swimming on the lake too.
  • Check the REI site and other sites for camp towels that have similar features.

Make Up and Body Wipes:

  • I use make up wipes sometimes before a class to make sure I don’t have any makeup on before getting super sweaty in class. I don’t use body wipes as I usually am near a shower to clean up after class.
  • Aveeno: Aveeno Make Up Wipes
  • Acure Organic: Cleansing Towelettes: I haven’t used these but I have seen this brand at Whole Foods.
  • Yuni Beauty: Shower Sheets made with natural ingredients including neem leaf extract, aloe and essential oils.

Essential Oils:

  • I love using certain essential oils in diffusers at night or dabbing some on my wrists or ankles. Sometimes I’ll even dab a drop on the ankle of my yoga pants.  When I forward fold I can smell the sweet smell of citrus or balance from doTerra.
  • **Be careful about using essential oils in the sun. Some intensify the sun and can be harmful.  I plan on bringing some of mine but will use them at night or in the morning in a diffuser.

Backpack:

  • Bring enough items with you in a backpack so you don’t have to take extra time away from the fun festivities.
  • Dakine: I love this backpack and use it all of the time. My yoga mat bag fits where a skateboard is supposed to fit.
  • Camelbak: There are also camelbaks that have extra room for stuffing in your yoga gear like these two:

Camelbak Scout

or this one:

Camelbak Helena

Water Bottle or Camelback:

  • Stay hydrated! Bring a refillable water bottle with you or camelback.

Camelbak Charm

  • Here are some water bottle brands that I like:

Klean Kanteen

Hydro Flask

Sigg

Blender Bottle

Camera:

  • There will be a lot of amazing photography opportunities. Bring your camera, GoPro or phone to take photos and videos.
  • *Don’t forget your chargers, extra batteries and memory cards too!

Deodorant:

  • You may need a stick to bring with you in your yoga mat bag to reapply throughout the day. Especially after multiple yoga classes.

Headband:

  • Do you mind if your hair gets in your eyes when you sweat or when it’s windy outside? Pack a headband just in case you find it useful.

Boots/Shoes/Socks:

  • Are you going hiking? You might! There’s tons of trails and you will want to wear comfortable shoes to climb over rocks.  Shoes with straps are ideal for hikes.
  • Bring sandals too for everyday use.

Bug Spray:

  • There aren’t really any bugs that I have ever noticed, but I always like to bring some

just in case.

Snacks:

  • Your fave tea, honey sticks, granola, trail mix, protein powder to add to juice or water, energy bars, etc. There will be a lot of options for buying food from vendors and local restaurants but your bill can add up quickly.  Bring some snacks when you are too far from food or when you just need a boost of energy.

Sunglasses:

  • Don’t forget sunnies!

**P.S. The ones with nose clips get stuck in my hair when I put the sunglasses on my head.  Useful tip to          bring sunglasses without the nose clips when in outdoors.

Layers:

  • Bring clothing options for all types of weather. It might be cold at night and in need of a sweater or jacket but during the day

Bathing Suit:

  • There’s a lake and pools plus SUP Paddle Boarding so pack your swimwear. Remember you might be doing yoga while in beach attire – wear something with enough coverage.  If you bought tickets for SUP Yoga on the boards you might want board shorts and a tank top so nothing spills out.

Journal & Pencil/Pen:

  • You will want to take notes while you are sitting at the lectures, learning from the yoga teachers, etc. Bring a journal and a pen/pencil to jot down any information that is interesting to you.

doTerra Deep Blue:

  • If I am sore from biking, hiking, yoga, working out, etc. I love using doTerra Deep Blue. It’s great to use at night before bed.  It helps me sleep better too.

Electrolytes:

  • My favorite brand is Nuun. They come in tablets that you add to water.  The Lemon Lime, Citrus Fruit and Strawberry Lemonade are my top flavors.  I prefer the ACTIVE Nuun because it doesn’t have caffeine extracts or added sugar.

Other outfits:

  • Bring some other outfits to chill out in when you are done with practicing yoga for the day. You may want to were a sun dress, shorts and a t-shirt or jeans at night.

Extras:

  • Flash Tattoos, Body Jewels, Henna if you like to add some body art.

Mala:

  • You may want to bring your favorite mala to recharge it being around so much great energy.
